Ageing care provider ECH (Enabling Confidence at Home) has just launched ‘Dandelion’, a new proof-of-concept Care Hotel, aimed at providing a range of ground-breaking solutions for short-term care and respite needs.
Dandelion is the first of its kind in Australia and is changing the landscape of how people can be supported as they age. Providing a similar experience to a hotel stay, guests will have a range of choices and the freedom and independence to access the services they desire in a comfortable, home-like environment.
Is Dandelion a hospital or residential care facility?
Neither. Dandelion is purposely-designed for older people who need respite or extra support with their recovery and would like to stay in a warm, home-away-from-home environment with all the amenities of a hotel, instead of in a hospital.
Located in Walkerville, Dandelion features 16 suites that are designed to feel like a hotel. There are eight short-stay suites designed for people transitioning from hospital who may need more frequent care than they get at home, and an additional eight suites for people experiencing dementia to provide a much-needed break for carers.
Client centred innovation and design
Currently, people living with Parkinson’s and carers alike are hesitant and feel guilty about taking respite because of the options available. The services and design of a Care Hotel could assist to change those views and offers choice and client-centred service. A Care Hotel has services that you would enjoy in a regular hotel such as being greeted and taken to your suite by hotel concierge, room service and state-of-art voice activated technology.
A range of ECH services are also available to both guests and visitors including general practitioners, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and dieticians plus group fitness activities and access to the on-site gym.
ECH client Tony visits Dandelion once a week for respite services and his wife Frinee says he enjoys the comfortable home-like rooms and warm, welcoming environment.
“Tony is always so happy after a stay at Dandelion. It gives me peace of mind knowing he is receiving the best care while I enjoy a much-needed break.”
How do I pay to stay at Dandelion?
Your stay in Dandelion can be charged directly to your Home Care Package or Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) if you have one. If you are self-funded, you will receive an invoice and you may be able to seek rebates from your private health insurance provider, depending on your level of cover.
