Pedal power for Parkinson’s research

pedal EDITED

More than 150 people hopped on the exercise bikes for a gruelling 24-hour Pedal to Fight Parkinson’s cyclathon at Adelaide Oval in June.

And the event raised more than $116,000 – an absolutely staggering amount for The Hospital Research Foundation Group – Parkinson’s!

The 24-hour fundraiser saw sports stars and the community come together to pedal stationary bikes and raise money for people living with Parkinson’s, research and community care.

Pedal to Fight Parkinson’s was spearheaded by former Adelaide Crow Mark Mickan, a beloved member of the South Australian football fraternity.

Mark developed the idea for a 24-hour fundraiser in 2019 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s just three years earlier.

Fourteen teams took part this year, including a team of Mark’s Crows teammates, the SANFL, Woodville-West Torrens Football Club, and the Adelaide Thunderbirds.

The event also spread out to the regions, with the Tumby Bay community rallying around the Parky’s Pedlers team and raising an amazing $7990!

We were totally blown away by the incredible support we received for Pedal to Fight Parkinson’s.

A huge thank you to our 14 teams who took part and our dedicated Parkinson’s community for rallying behind the event. This wouldn’t have been possible without you!

Your support and dedication have helped raise much needed awareness and will help drive life-changing Parkinson’s research forward.
